Football, baseball, basketball, and soccer.
In the past month, we've been to games for each of these sports in the DC area. First, Harvey got us tickets to a preseason Redskins game, my first NFL experience. It was kind of nice to be there in the preseason, when it's not as crowded and fans aren't as rabid. (One thing I have learned since moving to DC is the bitter hatred between the Redskins and the Cowboys. Do not come to a Redskins game in a Cowboys jersey!)

Then we got to use our free tickets to a Nationals game that our kids earned through the DC Library Summer Reading Program. Each of the three older kids earned two tickets, so we had just enough for the whole family. I think of the four games, this was my favorite: a cool evening, great seats, yummy baseball food, a Bryce Harper three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth, and a Nats victory!

Next, Gracie won two tickets to a Washington Mystics game, so I got to tag along with her. It was the first WNBA game for both of us. Our seats were close to the floor, and it was a fun mom-daughter afternoon, complete with soft pretzels and Rita's gelati.
And finally Harvey bought a package of tickets for DC United, and we watched the game in the fan zone on the field level (right next to the crazy fans--I was tempted to cover my kids' ears a few times).

It's not just anywhere you can experience such a variety of professional sports in one city. Washington is a fun place to be a sports fan, and I'm happy I've got myself a little clan of them to sit back and enjoy these games with me.
