The Spring in Pictures
There must be something about spring that makes me a lazy writer. Last year around this time, I wrote "The Spring Roundup" after having gone two whole months without a post. Perhaps it's the fact that April is so busy for us with three family birthdays, plus Easter and spring break (which this year meant a week-long Oklahoma road trip). You would think that with more things happening, I'd have more to write about and thus be eager to share. But what happens is I get ideas, procrastinate, and then something else happens and whatever I thought of before is old news, so I never get back to it, but I get busy and I don't write about any of the more current events either.
Here's how it goes: Back in February and March, Gracie got to go on three day-long ski trips with her school (to Liberty Mountain Resort in Pennsylvania). It's a program through DC Public Schools that teaches fourth- and fifth-grade students (many of whom might not otherwise have the opportunity because of the steep cost) skiing, then allows them to compete against one another. Another parent from the school sent me this photo of Gracie from the slopes
and I was giddy with excitement for her and thought this would be a great opportunity to post about all the unique learning experiences my kids have had through DCPS. However, I neglected to ever write anything about it, and since then the following blog-post-worthy events have taken place:
March 10: Judah's class field trip to Medieval Times
March 16-20: My parents' visit
Visiting a certain recently redone opulent Tower Hotel in DC |
After Gracie's Aladdin performance (more below) |
March 18-19: Gracie's performance in the ballet Aladdin
Costume fitting for the "gold coins" |
April 2-5: Friends Ben and Geena's visit (Ben's an old friend from Tulsa, and his girlfriend Geena is a singer-songwriter.)
April 7: Judah's birthday
April 11: My birthday
Brunch at Ted's Bulletin with two of my boys |
Birthday lunch at Succotash in National Harbor with girlfriends from church |
April 12: Gracie's birthday
Note to self: Birthday candles in warm brownies doesn't work so well (and could potentially burn the house down). |
With beloved neighbor friends Lauren and Joel |
Celebrating the birthdays in Oklahoma with family |
April 14-23: Spring break, road trip to OK
Memphis
Little Rock
(where we met friends who work at a fire station)
April 16: Easter
April 17: Adoption finalization for Asher in Amarillo, Texas
May 6: Half marathon, Tabitha's first track meet
Tabitha celebrating the win with her coach |
May 7: Judah's spring ballet performance
May 12: Tabitha's second track meet
May 14: Mother's Day
May 20: Anne Beers Elementary Daddy-Daughter Dance
Maybe I'll designate entire posts to at least one or two of these events. I hope I do. And I hope this will launch a steady stream of posts over the next several months. At least for now I've documented the highlights of our spring so far. Maybe the slower pace of summer (which starts for us June 15) will free up some time for me to write more consistently. If you've made it this far, thanks for taking a few minutes out of your own busy spring schedule to catch up with us!
