The Birthday Whistle

Judah's birthday was Sunday. Since she hasn't exactly made many friends in DC yet (kind of difficult when you're a newly speaking toddler), we decided to celebrate at home with just the family. I made cupcakes and found some old decorations from one of Gracie's parties, and we sang "Happy Birthday" and sat around the table with her while she opened her gifts. (Brother and sisters made cards for her and found some of their own toys to wrap and give. Very sweet.)

See if you notice a color theme for this party ...

Living away from our family, we were responsible this year for buying her gifts from Harvey's parents. Gamie and Papa, you got her an owl backpack and a spring outfit. My parents are coming to visit this week, so they will get to give her presents in person this year (about which we are all very excited).

Presents!

As I was shopping for the gifts at Target last weekend, I looked through the dollar bins and found a little recorder. I picked one up, thinking I would toss it in with the birthday gifts. Maybe she'd enjoy blowing it and making noise. This turned out to be her favorite present and elicit big Judah giggles. That was fun for all of us. It was such a big hit that she stopped eating mid-cupcake and asked for the "whistle" back. We told her she couldn't have it until she was done, and she said she was done. She wanted it more than sugar.

Happy Birthday, Judah. I hope your simple birthday celebration brought you just a bit of the joy you bring us every day.
